Ankie Vandekerckhove

Before she started working in VBJK, Ankie Vandekerckhove was the first Flemish Children’s Rights Commissioner (1998 – 2009). This commitment to children’s rights is still guiding her work in the different basic provisions for young children. Her VBJK themes are social inclusion and access to childcare with the focus on vulnerable groups.

The same issues are drivers in her international work in for example the ISSA network, the Transatlantic Forum on Inclusive Early Years and on European level. At these fora she works on recurring issues like quality, multilinguism, parent involvement, accessibility, inclusion and professionalization.

Next to her VBJK work, Ankie is also an independent consultant on children’s rights (in her free time) and did projects for Unicef, the EU and the Council of Europa
