Ghent University

VBJK is based in Ghent with a reason. The Ghent University has a long tradition in researching quality of ECEC, services for Early Childhood Education and Care. In From Ghent out into the world you can read how Ghent University and other partners, like the City of Ghent Pedagogical Guidance Centre, sowed the seeds from which VBJK could grow.

Today, the relation is still close. Michel Vandenbroeck moved from VBJK to the Ghent University, where he’s now the head of the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy and teaches family pedagogy. His link with VBJK remains as he is still chairing the organisation. Several VBJK colleagues who are or have been writing PhD studies on ECEC themes, often do this at the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy. VBJK also gives guest lectures at the University and we cooperate in research on pedagogical issues and societal questions regarding families and young children.

VBJK also cooperates with the Department of Special Need Education and the Department of Developmental, Personality and Social Psychology.
