Diversity and social inclusion

In the first years of life, it is important to give children sufficient self-confidence and to introduce them in a positive way to diversity. Therefore, professionals who work with young children, need a number of skills. The organizations in which these professionals work also support the development of these skills.

5 competences

The manual treats five competences:

  • Working towards social change
  • Open communication and dialogue
  • Critical reflection
  • Learning from disagreements
  • Co-constructing new practice and knowledge with children, parents and colleagues

European examples of good practice

Examples of good practices in different European countries make these competences concrete. Together with Making sense of good practice, this manual helps to develop a pedagogy of high quality that focuses on social and cultural diversity
